Professional Experience

I obtained a degree in Human Physiology from the State University Donietsk. After working as bench scientist at the Central Institute of Cancer Research in Berlin, and completing my Ph.D. in Cancer Epidemiology, I had the opportunity to work for international institutions like the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) and the World Hypertension League (WHL).
Following guest scientist positions at the ETH Zürich, the National Cancer Institute (NCI, NIH, Bethesda, MD), and the Federal Health Office of Germany, I started to work as Freelance Consultant for the just emerging molecular medicine and biotechnology industries. Customers included, among others, the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC, Berlin-Buch) (where I also headed the Office of Technology Transfer), the Free University Berlin, the Humboldt University Berlin, Springer Verlag and several Max-Planck Institutes.

I founded my first biotech company in 1996; Transgenics in Berlin-Buch GmbH, a service company producing transgenic and knock out animals. Two years later, Ribozyme Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (now SIRNA Therapeutics (Merck), Boulder, CO) with the help of the International Investment Council (IIC, Berlin) span out atugen Aktiengesellschaft (now Silence Therapeutics). During the foundation of atugen, Transgenics was merged into atugen, which I co-founded. Within atugen AG, I held several positions: CEO, Vice President Finance and Administration, and officer of atugen USA, Inc, a 100% US-based daughter of atugen AG.

Among my clients are companies like:
